The Last Resort
is a business story that took place in the tourism industry in the heart of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada in the late 1980's. This story starts with one man’s great desire to own and operate a year-round holiday resort. Once the search for a resort started, and a suitable established business was found, it would take unconventional methods by five partners to acquire and operate the resort and again when it was time to sell.
The events which took place are the author’s recollection of what took place at a small resort which featured a world famous fine-dining European restaurant. Much of the events that took place at this resort during the author’s stay were supported by a diary which was kept for the sole purpose of tracking the resort’s progress in the weeks, months and years to follow. Although their stay was short-lived, so many experiences were packed into those two years that the author’s felt compelled to share his story in the hope of benefiting some new entrepreneurs.
