The Last Resort is mostly based on a true story experienced by the author, Les Horvath in the late 1980s in Southern Ontario, Canada. The book is actually a memoir of one small phase in Les’s life involving the experience of becoming an entrepreneur and managing to get into a business, in an unconventional manner. There really was nothing special about the author’s life as he describes his upbringing as average. This is also stressed in the book in an effort to allow others to feel capable of starting a business venture for themselves.
After attending university for architecture and project management, and working for a decade in his profession, Les realized that there was more in the way of job satisfaction than the road he was currently on. With the skills learned in the working world, Les was confident that with considerable focus and good planning, one could successfully change occupations. He believes that the key to such success is the desire to “live the dream” by acquiring a lifestyle that most people would consider only a fantasy. The book was actually started circa 1992 from a diary and notes kept by Les during the years he was an Innkeeper, co-owning and operating a small holiday resort.
Now retired from a very eventful career in project management (mainly heavy construction involving all trades), there seems to be a little more time left to work on other manuscript ideas. Les is directing his sights in the future on more fictional stories that were inspired from true life adventures.
